The Essence of Wellness
Wellness is not merely a concept to me; it is a journey intricately woven through my roots, aspirations, and experiences. Born and raised in Hong Kong as a Punjabi, I’ve come to appreciate the rich blend of cultural traditions and the fast-paced capitalist landscape of my city. Over the years, I’ve learned just how vital wellness is to both our personal and professional lives.
A Culinary Legacy
Growing up in a family where my father was a chef, food was the heart of our home. I vividly recall watching him transform fresh ingredients into delicious meals, always committed to sourcing high-quality products from Smithfield Market. He often reminded me, “Quality does not have to come at a price, especially food,” underscoring the idea that the essence of food lies in its integrity, not merely its cost. This dedication to quality amidst the pressures of a competitive environment taught me valuable lessons about the delicate balance between sustaining a business and prioritizing well-being.
The Principle of Sewa
As a Sikh, the principle of “Sewa,” or selfless service, is deeply ingrained in my values. It drives my passion for making wellness accessible to all. I believe that a supportive society can uplift each other and drive the necessary changes needed to prevent illness, rather than simply seeking cures. This aligns with the “Governance” aspect of ESG, emphasizing ethical leadership and transparency in our practices.
True success cannot be measured solely in financial terms; it runs much deeper. It is about creating value and honouring our commitments to our communities and ourselves. My passion for wellness has been ignited by these experiences, leading me to seek a path where I can honour my cultural heritage alongside my professional aspirations.
Joining CÓCOES
This journey brought me to CÓCOES, a company that embodies my commitment to holistic health and aligns with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Here, I have the opportunity to pay homage to my farming ancestors, who understood the importance of nurturing their land while producing high-quality food, all within the constraints of a capitalist framework.
Commitment to Sustainability
At CÓCOES, we focus on creating organic, high-quality, safe, and nutritious food products that offer healthier and more sustainable alternatives in today’s marketplace. Our collaborations with the Indigenous People of Palawan are particularly meaningful, as they share our values of sustainability and quality. Together, we ensure that every product we curate is not only nutritious but also environmentally friendly, employing ancient techniques and processing methods free from additives to uphold the integrity of our ingredients. This commitment to sustainability is a core aspect of our ESG framework, ensuring that we minimize our environmental footprint while enhancing the livelihoods of our partners.
Community Engagement and Social Responsibility
Moreover, a portion of our profits goes to initiatives focused on education, health, and sustainability. We believe that wellness extends beyond individual health; it encompasses the well-being of our communities and the environment. This holistic approach aligns with the “Social” component of ESG, as we actively engage with and support the communities, we are part of. Our mission is to empower individuals to foster a more mindful society, where conscious living is attainable for everyone, not just a privileged few. By bringing people together, we cultivate a sense of belonging and encourage a collective embrace of wellness.
A Shared Commitment to Wellness
In conclusion, wellness is a journey shaped by our experiences, heritage, and community. It is about honouring our past while striving for a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone. By integrating ESG principles into our mission at CÓCOES, we can create a world where wellness is not just an individual pursuit but a shared commitment to the well-being of all. Together, we can pave the way for a more equitable, sustainable, and mindful society.
